There’s a biblical story about Jesus visiting the home of a gal named Martha and her sister Mary. While Martha prepared food for their guest, Mary sat at his feet and listened intently as he spoke. Martha questioned why her sister Mary wasn’t helping in the kitchen, and Jesus told Martha that her sister was making the better decision in setting household worries aside and simply being present.
My grandma couldn’t stand that story! She was forever empathetic to Martha’s desire to serve others (particularly by way of preparing food).
This candle is for my grandma Phyllis. I hope it smells like a hospitable, matriarchal home.
