why "the Monastic home?"

The word “monastery” conjures up images of 6th century men with silly haircuts wearing long robes who live quiet lives removed from society. But perhaps the monastery is actually a sacred container for all the activities that give life meaning: time for solitude, time for friendship, time for contemplation, time to tend a garden, time for personal creativity, time for long walks, time for home-cooked meals and time for ample sleep.

How might monastic life inspire our own way of life? How do our daily routines breathe meaning into the mundane? How does our home mirror our personality and longings? Grappling with these questions is the heartfelt work of The Monastic Home.

My hope is to create both a physical space and virtual space where like-minded people feel welcome to co-create a peaceful nook amidst an often chaotic and dreary world. On Saturdays in Canal Fulton, gather with my family at 116 South Canal Street for baked goods—maybe bring your favorite book or a journal if you need time to yourself! Outside of Saturdays, may this little pocket of virtual space offer respite, tranquility and a sense of community.
